1 The rule
We use there is and there are to say that something exists or is present in a place.
Use there is with singular nouns and there are with plural nouns.

Describing a place or a room
- There is a table and there are four chairs.
- There is a park near my house.
Quantity with some / any
- There are some apples on the table.
- There isn't any bread.
4 Common mistakes
✗ There is three cats.
✓ There are three cats.
Plural noun → there are.
✗ It has a book on the table.
✓ There is a book on the table.
“C'è” is there is, not “it has”.
✗ There are a problem.
✓ There is a problem.
In italiano«C'è / ci sono» in inglese è There is / There are (non «it has», calco dall'italiano «ci ha»).
