Every Sunday morning, there is a market in the square near our house. My mum and I always go.

The market has stalls selling vegetables, fruit, bread, cheese, meat, flowers, and many other things. It is much better than the supermarket because the produce is fresh and local.

Our favourite stall is run by an old farmer called Giovanni. He grows everything himself. His tomatoes are the best I have ever tasted. He always gives us a taste before we buy.

There is also a stall that sells homemade jams and chutneys. The lady who runs it has been there for twenty years. She makes seventy different varieties. My favourite is her strawberry and vanilla jam.

The market is always busy and noisy. People chat, children run around, dogs bark. It feels like a real community gathering.

My mum says shopping at the market is not just about food. It is about supporting local people and knowing where your food comes from.
