Water is the most important substance on Earth. Every living thing needs water to survive. Our bodies are made of about sixty percent water.
We use water every day in many ways. We drink it, cook with it, wash with it, and grow food with it. Without water, we could not live for more than a few days.
Most of the Earth is covered in water. But most of it is salt water in the oceans. Only a small part is fresh water that we can drink.
Fresh water comes from rain, rivers, lakes, and underground. In some parts of the world, there is not enough clean water. People have to walk long distances to find it.
We should not waste water. Turning off the tap while brushing teeth saves a lot of water. Taking shorter showers is also helpful.
Water falls from the sky as rain, fills our rivers and lakes, and evaporates to form clouds. This is called the water cycle. It never stops.
