Sofia had planned her weekend perfectly. She was going to stay at home, finish her book, and relax. But life, as she soon discovered, had other plans for her.

On Saturday morning, her phone rang. It was her grandmother, calling from a small town in the mountains. "Sofia, dear," she said, "my car has broken down, and I need to get to the hospital for a check-up on Monday. Could you possibly come and help me?"

Sofia loved her grandmother very much, so of course she agreed immediately. She packed a small bag and took the next train. The journey was longer than she had expected, and she had to change trains twice. By the time she arrived, it was already getting dark.

Her grandmother's house was warm and welcoming. They spent the evening talking and laughing, eating homemade soup in the cosy kitchen. Sofia realised that she had not visited for almost a year, and she felt a little guilty about it.

The next day, they explored the town together. Although it was small, it was beautiful. There was an ancient church, a busy market, and a path that led up into the hills. They walked slowly, stopping often to enjoy the fresh mountain air and the wonderful views.

On Monday, Sofia took her grandmother to the hospital. Fortunately, the doctor said that everything was fine. They celebrated with a slice of cake in a little café near the station.

As Sofia travelled home that evening, she thought about the weekend. It had been completely different from what she had planned. She had not finished her book or had any time to relax. And yet, strangely, she felt happier than she had felt in months.

Sometimes, she decided, the best experiences are the ones we never expect. She promised herself that she would visit her grandmother more often. Some things, after all, are far more important than a quiet weekend at home.
